late summer sun + stunning details

As the summer winds down the light of the afternoon sun seems to cast a little bit softer light and the rays feels all the more sweet. These images capture that perfectly and it creates such a lovely backdrop to the unique and decorative chandelier of this attic space and the exquisite cutout detail of the Roberto Cavalli's dress.

inspiration {mirrored discs}

I am accident prone and am sure that if I had a mirrored tabletop that I would certainly break or scrape it almost instantly. However, the look is one that I am fond of. Placing a few mirrored discs on a table (especially against the distressed wood of this particular table) is a stunning and unique alternative. Definitely the perfect touch in an eclectic dining room.

style series {tribal}

So often I hear people say that they can define their interior design style (industrial chic, mid century modern, classic contemporary and the list goes on...) but don't necessarily know how to achieve the look they describe. I decided to start a series that can help those people by picking a few large and small pieces that they can add to their home to start building that particular style. I thought I would start with a style that is a little more straight forward, tribal. Tribal style can begin to be achieved using is simple bold prints, natural materials and neutral textures.

calm, cool and collected

...that is what I am trying to be this morning as I fly home to Chicago. However, I fear I will not be so I will just let these rooms do that for me.

glorious {bedroom} glamour

I prefer glamorous touches to all out luxury, just my personal preference. But there really is something to be said about the indulgent and over the top glam. When layered well with the rich colors and textures it is so stunning, as this home proves. I adore the tufted teal headboard, freestanding armoire and almost gothic bedside lighting of this bedroom--especially against the industrial feel of the wall treatment.

See, even that little girl feels glam in there!

neon + jewel tones

This morning the 32 degree temperature made it very difficult to get out of bed and is making it quite difficult to get energized for the day. I am sure this would never be a problem if I was enjoying my coffee in a home with the bold and daring combination of chartreuse and jewel tones.
This is a sneak peak of Ellen Hamilton's (Hamilton Design Associates) home and just like her portfolio it is full of playful pizzaz. And of course she has a fabulous selection of pillows.

slouchy + sexy {heidi merrick}

Ok. yes I know, I am not quite ready for fall yet either but it is helping my spirits to swoon over fall fashion. Well, the September issues of my favorite fashion publications pushed me a little bit. Over the weekend I started be seeing what my favorite fashion lines had in store for the autumn and I my jaw dropped over the rich colors, balanced and slouchy sexy cuts of Heidi Merrick's collection.

And with that, have a lovely start to your week!

outdoor living {patina punches}

So many people forget to spiff up the outside of there home and too often focus on what is within the four walls. One of the easiest and most cost effective ways to add a little punch to an outdoor space is with color--whether painting beams on a patio, the legs of an outdoor dining table or even the front door. I particularly love the "stop you in your tracks" look that a beautiful bright patina adds.

eye candy {bathed in light}

After coming home from work last night to rain and dark storm clouds I am overjoyed to once again have sun streaming through my home. Amazing how a little bright light can instantly brighten my mood. However, it does make all the dog hair on my floor show, but oh well! Now if only this was where I was currently blogging by day light...

fashioning interiors {see by chloe}

The morning air is crisp, hot cocoa cravings are setting in and ski passes are now on sale. I hate to say it but Fall is on the way and the fall and winter lines are finally having some appeal to me. I am especially crazy about the winter line from See by Chloe. It is full of rich color, playful patterns and luxurious textures. And as with most of my favorite fashion looks these qualities translate beautifully into rooms.

girlish {bedside} glamour

Why is it always so hard to wake up on Monday mornings? However I think it would be even harder if I was pressing snooze on a clock that was placed on one of these lovely bedside tables. Jut a little girlish glamour to start off the work week....

sunday {supper} setting

I love Sunday evenings and unwinding from the weekend by preparing a complex meal (think homemade pasta) for friends. As I am in the middle of the Rocky Mountains serving in fabulous and formal beach setting is incredibly appealing at the moment. Especially if it was under a seaglass tinged chandelier and served on a lovely mandarin greek key adorned table covering.

Hope you are having a lovely Sunday supper, wherever you may be enjoying it.

refreshing perfection

I had almost given up on Veranda but when I saw the cover of the September issue I just had to pull it off the rack. The cover features this stunning and refreshing home. The inspiration from these rooms was well worth the $5.99.

Nicely done Veranda, nicely done. And of course a big thank you to the designer, Melanie Turner.

eye candy {magnolias + pom poms}

Bedrooms are such personal spaces. I love how they can reflect the dweller's personality shamelessly, as they are designed as a private escape and not for public consumption. I tend to not have girl style in most of my home but enter my bedroom and floral patterns and frills abound, which is why I just adore this magnolia and pom pom laden bedroom.

loving {seaglass tinged kitchens}

Do you have a color that no matter how tired or unattractive you feel that by putting it on you feel instantly better? For me it has always been turquoise. It makes me feel instantly energized and the same hold true when this color is added to a room. There is nothing remotely boring or drab about the look it helps create.

easy breezy style

Oh Monday, I have never loved you so much (well, this week). This past weekend was the busiest of my summer due to a large Sunday evening event. So although Monday means another work week it also brings with it a big sigh of relief that this event is complete and was a success. It also calls for a day of easy breezy style.

closet lust {color + zig zags}

No, I have not deserted delight by design. I have had a beyond crazy week preparing for an event that will be attended by over 500 people tomorrow evening. Thankfully everything is falling in to place, I may be jinxing myself by saying that! After a week of chaos I am finally thinking about the minor things like "what should I wear?" I wish that my closet was as pleasant and fun as this one to be asking such questions...

Will return to normal scheduled programming on Monday!

home crush {bright white with a punch}

Do you ever come across homes that are so beautiful or perfectly to your taste that you wonder, does that home really exist? Each room pulls on a different aesthetic heart string. Starting with the symmetry and scale of the dining room.

And the home just happens to have my new favorite eat-in kitchen.

Oh and then a romantic canopy bed so perfectly grounded with pops of red.

And then last but not least, this bathroom is the perfect combination of quirky and functional all topped off with a stunning runner.

room to wardrobe {pattern on pattern}

The second I saw this room, designed by David Netto, I was intrigued by the mix of two very bold patterns, the rug and the wallpaper.

The colors are so rich and made me excited for the colors of fall and inspired the first few pieces I would like to put in my closet for a look with punches of classic style and pattern.
