glam in black+silver

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! I am unwinding from mine with a relaxing night watching the Grammy's. Maybe it is just me but whenever I watch award shows I feel the desire to deck myself in everything sparkly and glamorous in my closet. Which has led to my urge to purchase a few more pieces in the classic but hardly boring combination of black and silver.

(one vintage dress, pillow from jayson home & garden, malene birger necklace, meteo flats, forever 21 owl pin and judith leiber)
I am especially head over heels for the flats and the $5 owl pin.

eye candy {contemporary country}

This past weekend I decided it was finally time to get a library card and see what the local library had stocked in the interior design section. I was thoroughly impressed and came home with many lovely hardbacks but was most impressed with Contemporary Country--especially these lovely masterfully mixed style dining areas on its pages.

Are you a fan of this cozy yet sophisticated style?

fashioning interiors {elie saab couture}

Oh how I love couture--especially when it is a stunningly feminine and elegant collection of elie saab, like the one that just appeared on the Paris runway.
The colors were subtle, the frills were perfectly restrained and the style just exuding romance.

All elements that describe some of my current favorite interiors.

simply pretty {neither snow}

I was just working on a valentine's inspired event board and pursuing some of my favorite inspirational blogs when I came across the stunning calligraphy of neither snow over at 100 layer cake. As I have very childish penmanship I stop in complete awe at stylishly inked paper like theirs. Not to mention the fact that I am always a sucker for well styled photos.

And isn't the combination of fonts lovely?

weekly dose {cool neutrals+chandeliers}

After a very hectic Monday, and really a busy few weeks, I find something incredibly soothing about cool neutral interiors--especially those with rustic charm and the sparkle of a chandelier.

Yes, I can already feel my headache subside. Now time to get ready for another social evening celebrating a friends 30th! Hope you had a lovely start to your week.

color inspiration {scarlet+turquoise}

I always love finding new color combinations and when I saw this editorial shot in the February Harper's Bazaar I knew I found a new one--scarlet, pink and turquoise! It is fresh, sophisticated and flirty.

in love with indigo

If there was a color that was my kryptonite it would be blue--if you hadn't noticed. And this spring (which I am pretending is just around the corner!) I am just loving shades of indigo mixed with warmer tones.

pops of teal+paris

Sorry to be brief but I am a very busy bee today. Just a little eye candy to get the day started. I think I may want a map of Paris in my home just as much as I want to actually visit!

fashioning interiors {cynthia steffe}

When it comes to building up a collection of basics for this spring the pieces from Cynthia Steffe's line are the perfect starting point--full of feminine touches, pastels and flattering shapes. The looks from the collection also happen to perfectly match my favorite spaces from the newest book on my shelf, Style and Substance.

event inspiration {lime+biscotti}

I know that most party hosts love throwing an unique event full of personal and unexpected elements--which can be quite the task. I think it also tends to make people ignore classic color combinations, such as lime green and creamy biscotti, but they can still create an amazing and fresh look when textures are carefully chosen and details are not ignored.

After all there are a reason that these colors are classics!

home tour {my kind of modern}

My personal design aesthetic does not tend to be on the modern end of the spectrum but I do love the recently completed project of Jessica Helgerson. This home of a young family in Portland is warm, clean, full of creative touches and preserves many of the traditional architectural elements.

I have never seen a mirrored mural before and love the way it looks in this front hall--especially on the ceiling.

It is furnished in classic, modern and contemporary styles adding a warmth to the design.

This subtle wallpaper creates the perfect backdrop for a soothing bedroom retreat.

And I always love Jessica's kitchens and dining rooms and the ones in this home are no exception! What fun light fixtures she choose.

Hope you love this house as much as I do! You can see more of this home right here.

whisper soft

After a crazy week these whisper soft hues are the perfect reprieve! Love the instant calm and serenity these pale and cool hues evoke.

eye candy {let there be light}

I am head over heels for the dining and living room of this house--it is the perfect balance of rustic and elegant. Not the mention the natural light flowing in just breaths such lovely life into the rooms.

Oh and I cannot forget about the perfectly faded dining room chairs--the stripe down the center of them is just the perfect subtle detail. Hope you all have a lovely evening.

the end of the formal dinner?

Interior design trends constantly adapt to suit social trends and I think the appearance of sofas at dining room tables is an example of that. More and more when I have dinner with friends we wind up sitting on the sofa around the coffee table to eat dinner.

Am I alone in experiencing this trend not only socially but in interior design?

lovely in black+blue

I woke up this morning covered in bruises and quite sore. I actually don't really mind as it was a small price to pay for a fantastic weekend full of skiing with friends and a productive reorganizing of my furniture. But there are a few more attractive black and blue combinations I have on my mind...

plaid backsplash

I love unique black splashes in a kitchen--such as this plaid patterned coral and slate one in the kitchen of designer Jay Jeffers.

And such a fun color combination too!

{eye candy} sepia focal point

I have posted about my love of warm sepia accents before and am currently just smitten with the use of the tone in over sized art pieces.

Sorry for brevity but I am on my way out the door for the evening! Have lovely night.

jewel tones {spring renewal}

I could not be more pleased that the jewel tones of fall are finding there way into spring looks. I have always loved the drama of these colors but craved them in items that were not as heavy as the winter style. As surprising as it seems jewel tones really can create a fresh and light look in a room and in a closet!

(via elle decor, I think!)

{peaceful} beginning to the day

Doesn't this sitting room look like the perfect place to start the morning in a moment of calm with a hot cup of tea and perhaps the crossword?

This week has definitely been hectic and I am craving this type of escape to start my Wednesday, which I fear will be just as crazy!

event inspiration {ink+pink brunch}

Ah, my favorite of all social events--brunch! There is just so much fun that can be had with this casual and low key occasion. I am currently loving the sophisticated yet playful feel of an inky blue, cream and pale pink palette for such an occasion.

entertaining ready {nate berkus}

When I first saw Nate Berkus a few ago at a charity fashion show in Chicago I had no clue who he was but was completely intrigued by him--he just projected a contagious energy. And that same energy, paired with daring, is why I love the interiors he designs.

His latest work, as featured in the January issue of Chicago Home and Garden, is dynamic, visually interesting and the perfect place to entertain! I would constantly throw parties if I had those embroidered chairs to seat guests in for dinner and this living room layout to pour a the perfect post dinner cocktail.

Yes, pure entertaining bliss!

get the look: {classic} grecian style

When it comes to looking feminine I think that there is no better look than those that are Grecian inspired. Which is why I loved this look in the January Harper's Bazaar.

And would love to have these pieces in my closet to perfectly create that look with an evening twist.
